Inspirado no conceito do Are\u00f3pago ateniense\u2014o conselho aristocr\u00e1tico da Gr\u00e9cia Antiga\u2014esse grupo reunia intelectuais, religiosos e pol\u00edticos com o objetivo de debater ideias filos\u00f3ficas, liter\u00e1rias e pol\u00edticas, al\u00e9m de influenciar a cultura e o pensamento da regi\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Em <strong>1796<\/strong>, o Are\u00f3pago de Itamb\u00e9 foi instalado sob a lideran\u00e7a do bot\u00e2nico <strong>Manuel Arruda da C\u00e2mara<\/strong>, que, rec\u00e9m-formado na Fran\u00e7a, fundou ali a <strong>primeira loja ma\u00e7\u00f4nica do Brasil<\/strong>. O grupo se tornou um espa\u00e7o fundamental para discutir a <strong>independ\u00eancia do Brasil de Portugal<\/strong>, refletindo as influ\u00eancias iluministas que chegavam \u00e0 col\u00f4nia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acredita-se que o Are\u00f3pago de Itamb\u00e9 teve um papel relevante na <strong>propaga\u00e7\u00e3o de ideias liberais<\/strong> e na luta pela <strong>aboli\u00e7\u00e3o da escravatura<\/strong>.
